EPU Argentina

How much uncertainty surrounds Argentine economic policy?

"There's a lot of uncertainty" is something we hear all the time, but it rarely comes with a number attached.

The EPU Argentina - Economic Policy Uncertainty Index - puts a number on that feeling. It measures, week by week, how much uncertainty about Argentine economic policy is circulating in the news. To build it, we monitor millions of news articles in more than one hundred languages and track what share simultaneously mentions economy, policy and uncertainty. The result is normalized so that a value of 100 corresponds to the historical average: above 100 means more uncertainty than usual; below, less.

The index accurately captures the key moments of recent Argentine history -the 2019 PASO primaries, COVID-19, the 2023 runoff election, the lifting of capital controls in 2025- and makes it possible to distinguish whether uncertainty is coming from inside the country or from abroad.
