What do we do?
At the Cognitive Neuroscience Center, we specialize in the neuroscience of situated cognition, emphasizing three axes: language, social cognition, and brain health. We address these phenomena by integrating behavioral, peripheral, electrophysiological, and neuroimaging techniques. Our mission is to develop high-impact research, train young scientists, and transfer our findings to society.
Our lines of research
Linguistic markers of neurodegeneration
We combine neuropsychological testing, psycholinguistic paradigms, automated speech analysis, natural language processing and neuroscience techniques to find early markers of Alzheimer's disease, among other conditions.
Multilingualism
We integrate behavioral and neuroscientific methods to understand how the brain manages the coexistence of different languages and how they interact with individual experiences.
Embodied cognition
We have developed novel approaches to study the role of sensorimotor, affective and interoceptive mechanisms during language processing in strategic populations.
Socioemotional processes in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders
We study socioemotional processes in healthy individuals and patients with neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, combining new experimental paradigms, clinical assessments, neuroimaging (structural and functional MRI), neurophysiology (EEG) and mathematical modeling.
Intracranial features of cognition
We combine intracranial recordings in humans with brain connectivity measures and artificial intelligence approaches. This allows us to characterize various neurocognitive domains with high spatiotemporal precision.
Infant cognition and development of prosocial behaviors
We investigate how children aged 5-10 years develop prosocial attitudes and behaviors. We focus on studying how social norms and group identities shape children's prosocial preferences and the mechanisms that explain these processes.
