About

The Intensive Spanish Program at Universidad de San Andrés is a 4-week course oriented to students who want to significantly improve their Spanish and be immersed in Argentine culture

Courses are carefully tailored by a team of native instructors and professionals with vast experience in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. They are taught are taught at our San Andrés downtown facility in Buenos Aires, conveniently located just blocks from the historic Plaza de Mayo. The program curriculum is complemented with frequent cultural excursions and activities aimed at experiencing the living language of Porteños (residents of Buenos Aires).

The program is designed for students who have had at least three semesters of college level Spanish or the equivalent.


The Intensive Spanish Program at Universidad de San Andrés provides students the opportunity to advance in their degree while living in Argentina and improving their Spanish. A university transcript will be mailed directly to the student’s home university upon successful completion of the program. Given the intensive nature of the one-month program, generally students earn credits for two semester long classes.

Classes are held Monday-Friday from 10am to 2:30pm with a break for lunch.

Spanish Language Course at Intermediate Level (40 hrs)

The course takes advantage of the immersion experience to quickly grow and deepen students' Spanish language level. It provides a systematic review and expansion of grammar and vocabulary, as well as strategies for listening, speaking, reading, and writing in increasingly complex situations. It enables participants to achieve a more natural use of the language in a native context, while also preparing them to take academic courses taught in Spanish with local students.

Spanish through Popular Culture, Literature and Film (40 hrs)

This is a dynamic, experientially based course which allows students to exercise and improve their Spanish through the study of a wide array of Argentine cultural artefacts, from literary texts and films to popular music and visual arts. The professor will also delve into the living cultural landscape of Buenos Aires, guiding the group to relevant and interesting Buenos Aires happenings, including concerts, art galleries, museums, historical sites and alternative theater productions.

Program Costs

USD $ 2,000 per student. Discounted prices for students from partner universities.

The fee includes:

  • Tuition.
  • Coordination of the Program.
  • Use of campus facilities (classrooms, computer lab, library).
  • Welcome and farewell receptions.
  • Orientation.
  • Housing assistance.
  • Field trips and activities in Buenos Aires.

Additional costs not included: Airfare, visa fees, housing, meals, health insurance, local transportation, laundry, cell phone rental, incidental personal expenses and personal travel expenses.

Location

Classes are taught at our San Andrés downtown facility in Buenos Aires, conveniently located just blocks from the historic Plaza de Mayo.

Orientation

Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, students attend an orientation session which covers topics related to health and safety, transportation, communications and cultural adaptation. They will also take a Spanish evaluation to place them in one of the Spanish Language courses.

Housing

Students can live with carefully selected host families or can opt for an apartment with other students. San Andrés will make arrangements directly for host families and will provide resources to help those students who prefer to live in an apartment.

Health Insurance

The purchase of a local health insurance policy is required. Students may petition to waive this requirement if their international policy meets minimum requirements. After letter of acceptance is emitted, petitions will not be accepted. Estimated cost for a local policy is USD $85 per month / $400 per semester. Once admitted, UdeSA will send contact info for local policy which meets requirements including repatriation benefit and complete coverage at hospitals with international standards.

  • Bus and walking tour through the most vital and interesting areas of downtown Buenos Aires (La Boca, Recoleta, San Telmo, Puerto Madero, etc.).
  • Visit to Malba (Museo de Arte Latinamericano de Buenos Aires).
  • Tango lessons and milonga.
  • Buenos Aires urban art and graffiti scene tour.

Visa Requirements

Universidad de San Andrés adheres to the Disposition #20699 of the National Immigration Office, of the Interior Ministry of the Argentine Republic, regarding student visas and residency permits. In accordance with this disposition, you are allow to stay in Argentina as a tourist for 90 days. If you do not exceed this 90 days stay you do not need to change your inmigration status.

Reciprocity Fees for Certain Countries

Passport holders from the Australia and Canada are required to pay a reciprocity fee to enter Argentina (varies $100 -$160 USD). This must be paid prior to departure and a printed receipt must be presented when going through Immigration. The reciprocity fee for US passport holders was suspended in Mar 2016, however US citizens should check the latest information prior to departure for Argentina.
